Udhauli
Udhauli festival is celebrated by Kirat Community of eastern Nepal on Marga Sukla Purnima.This festival marks the migration of animals and birds to low altitude towards warmer regions from cold winter in high altitude.
This festival is also seen as the start of winter. Kirati people perform a special kind of dance(Sakela), by playing musical instruments like Dhol, Jhyamta etc.A special kind of dress “Chhit ko Guneu” is worn by Kirati women.
This day is also observed as Bhumi Puja (Worship of Land) where Kirati people worship mother nature for good crops during the season of April and also thanking the mother nature for giving good crops during the current season.
This festival has also been stated in Mundhum (holy book of Kirati People)
