New Year

New year in Nepal is observed on the first day of Month Baishak. Baishak is the first month of Bikram Sambat Calendar. First of Baishak falls in the mid April. This day is observed as national holiday. New Year is referred to as “Nawa Barsha” and it’s celebrated as a public holiday throughout the country.
Many festivals including Bisket Jatra in bhaktapur is celebrated on this day. Many programs like street festivals, carnivals, cultural shows, musical concerts are organized.
Many people go out on picnics in local parks, travel around to see different parts of the country. Many family gatherings are also observed on this day. There is much joy as the whole nations unites to welcome the new year. People also exchange gifts and greeting, and new year’s resolutions are made.
