Chaite Dashain

Chaite Dashain is one of the two Dashain. This dashain is known as Chaite Dashain because it falls in the month of Chaitra, last month of Nepali calendar year. This is the last festival in Nepali calendar year. This festival has same importance as the Bijaya Dashami even though it is celebrated only for 2 days. Chaite Dashain is also celebration of the victory of good over evil. It is the celebration of Lord Ram’s victory over Ravan. This day is regarded as the day when Lord Ram came back to Ayodhaya with his wife Sita, brother Laxman, Hanuman and his military after 14 years of his exile.
In this festival, Goddess Durga is worshiped and animal sacrifices are made in temples especially in temples of Durga Bhawani. Number of water buffalos, goats, chicken and ducks are sacrificed in Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur Durbar square.
